  • 700 Indian students face deportation from Canada as visa papers found fake

    Mar 18,2023

More than 700 Indian students are facing deportation from Canada after the authorities in the North American country found their ‘admission offer letters’ to educational institutions to be fake. They received the deportation letters from the Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) recently.

According to media reports, these 700 students had applied for study visas via Education Migration Services (located in Jalandhar) headed by Brijesh Mishra, who had charged more than Rs 16 lakh per student for all expenses, including admission fee to premier institute Humber College but excluding the air tickets and security deposits.

These students had gone to Canada on a study basis in 2018-19 . The fraud came to light when these students applied for permanent residency (PR) in Canada for which the ‘admission offer letters’ came under scrutiny, that is, the CBSA examined the documents based on which the visas were issued to the students and found the ‘admission offer letters’ to be fake.

  • Canada student visa rejected? Here's the reason and how to avoid it

    Aug 9,2022

    Livemint

Rejection of student visa permits in Canada have been on the rise since the Covid-19 restrictions and air travel ban have been lifted in 2021
In the past few days, Indian students have been witnessing a sharp rise in rejection of their student visa permit by the Canadian Government. Reports suggest that the student visa permit rejection have spiked to an almost 60% in the past few days.
Rejection of student visa permits in Canada have been on the rise since the Covid-19 restrictions and air travel ban have been lifted in 2021. However, students have seen a sharp rise in rejection, especially in the past few days.
Reports have suggested that students who have IELTS scores of 6.5 to 7, good academic record and financial background have also been rejected.
A CBC News report have said that of more than two million temporary resident and permanent residency (PR) applications pending in Canada, nearly a million came from India. The report also mentioned that at present, Canada has a backlog of more than 2.4 million immigration applications as of 29 June, up from 1.8 million applications in March.
This data was received from Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) department.

Here is why student visas are getting rejected

Experts have suggested that there has been a significant rise in visa application among students for Canada due to declining interest in Australia and New Zealand.
The bulk rejections and delay in visa approval could be result of these sudden increase in visa application. Notably, the visa application process for Canada has become a rather long process involving tedious process of 9-12 months.
Experts have also cited high pendency rate of applications in different categories, fraud documentation by students in some cases, licensing issues with certain private colleges for the increased rejection of Visa permit for students.

  • India & UK sign pact for mutual recognition of educational qualifications

    July 22,2022

India and the UK on Thursday agreed on mutual recognition of educational qualifications students from both countries, a move which will cover courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as maritime education, but will exclude professional degrees in engineering, medicine, architecture and pharmacy.
India is seeking easier rules for professional courses in the bilateral trade agreement that is being negotiated, commerce secretary BVR Subrahmanyam said. These agreements will facilitate closer alignment on education between India and the UK, enhance short-term bilateral mobility and ensure mutual recognition of qualifications, a statement said.
The memorandum of understanding will include online courses and facilitate courses which offer students the option to partly study in India and also in the UK, the commerce secretary said. Besides, it will come handy for those who complete a postgraduate programme from the UK, which is for one year. It will now be possible to transfer the credits earned by students.
On a reciprocal basis, Indian Senior Secondary School/Pre-University Certificates will be considered suitable for entry into UK higher education institutions. Similarly, the bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree of India and the UK will also be considered equivalent to each other, the statement said. Currently, students who complete a PG course from the UK find it difficult to enrol for a PhD in India, Subrahmanyam said.
